Mr William Ballensinger

William Alfred (Al) Ballensinger, dearly beloved husband, Dad, Uncle and friend, joined the church eternal on Monday, July 4, 2016. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jana Ballensinger; his parents, William J. and Elsie Ballensinger; and his Mother-In-Law, Jean Hyler. Left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Janice, of 39 years; along with his daughter, Anne Ballensinger; Father-In-Law, Elmer Hyler; his brother and sisters through Janice, James E. Hyler (wife Paula and their son, Shawn); Jalene Dennard (husband Dan and their daughters, Janine and Amanda); Janelle Bates (husband Michael and their children Jason, Justin, and Ashley). Included with the family are "The Beach Buds” Don Vandergriff (wife Evonne); Diane Duffy Barber; Deanie Burge (husband Jim); and Jesse McLendon (wife Joy). The Beach Buds are friendships forged since elementary school and even stronger today through years of vacationing together “at the beach!” Al was born in Tampa, Florida, October 4, 1944. He graduated from Robinson High School in Tampa, class of 1962. In 1966 he graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He enjoyed a career in Human Resources for 35+ years. He loved to serve the Lord; most especially when he was at the church alter as Eucharistic Minister and taking communion to those who were unable to attend church. During his “retirement years” he volunteered and then worked part time at Little Sisters of the Poor in Mobile, Alabama taking the Residents to doctor appointments and social outings, grilling hamburgers and hot dogs on holidays for the Residents and doing anything he could to make the Residents happy. He loved to entertain folks in our home; looking for every occasion to have a cook-out or church “supper club” dinner. He had a genuine heart that cared for all people. His happiest moments were with his family and friends. He loved to tell a story; boy, did he love to tell a story!! He shared his love of the beach and being on the water with his Beach Buds friends and family. A Celebration of Life to honor the life and legacy of this dear man will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 506 North Pine Street, Foley, AL with The Rev. Keith Talbert and The Rev. Steve Pankey officiating. There will be a reception to follow the service. Al’s ashes will be joined with his daughter, Jana, and they will be laid to rest in the Gulf of Mexico at a later time. No flowers, please. It is Al’s wishes that Memorial contributions be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1655 McGill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604 or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Foley, Alabama. You may also contribute online for Little Sisters of the Poor at: https://littlesistersofthepoormobile.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/Giftinmemoryofadeceasedperson This scripture from one of the last Bible Studies Al and Janice shared is so appropriate for his love of serving at the altar: 1 Corinthians 11: 23-29 “For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you; The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (NIV)
