Robert Cummings

Robert Bernie Cummings of Daphne Alabama left us to be with the Angles on January 16th. He was surrounded by his loved ones in his home. Bernie or Papa or Poppin was how he was known to all was born on September 3 1936, in Prichard Alabama. He is preceded in death by both his parents, Father Robert James Cummings, Mother Hilda Evelyn Cummings and his grandson Bowen Cummings. He is survived by his wife Joanne and would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year on January 25th. His children, Chuck Cummings (Angela), Julie C. Saucier (Kevin), Barbie W Bowboin (John). His grandchildren, Jason D Saucier (Stephanie), Justin C. Saucier, Haleigh W. Sullivan (Stephen), Miranda A. Waltman. He is also survived by Bowen’s wife Kristina Cummings and seven great grandchildren to be proud of. He loved to be with his wife, Joanne, who he loved like no other and made sure she was always taken care of. He would sit with his family and friends and watch football all day with a can of Miller Lite in his hand but at 5 0’clock he would have his “green hornet” a drink he created with mountain dew and vodka, “you should try it’ “he would say! He always had hot dogs and bologna in his refrigerator, I believe it came from the days his father worked at Haas Davis in Prichard AL. He loved to work in his yard and around his home but could mess up a honey do in a split second and then require a professional, which he was not, to correct what he had made worse. He loved music, he had a singing group called “The No Names” with his best friends. They would sing regularly at the Azalea Grill and many other happening places of that era. He would sing on a regular basis all the old doo wop songs for his family and friends, he was able to do this the week he left us, and it sounded beautiful. Bernie made everyone laugh and would not hesitate to throw out a wise crack at anyone, any time, family, or friends, inappropriate or not, he just didn’t care. This is what made him who he was right up to his departure. He loved to work and had numerous businesses throughout his lifetime, including working at his family’s business SARS as well as the Eastern Shore Cinema in Daphne. Bernie was one of a kind, a beautiful man who was short in statue but large in life with his beautiful Miss Chickasaw Joanne always by his side. Daddy you will be missed… The family would like to thank the earthly angels who helped us care for daddy throughout the last few months, his nurse Tammie and sweet Elizabeth who he fought over a bath with on a daily basis, Jennifer for helping us get the great care from Kindred Hospice and all those who came to help,and to all his care givers from Comfort Keepers, Missy, Timia, Gentry, Rita and others who came and helped us daily. The family will receive friends at their home at 505 Cedar Circle Daphne, AL, Sunday the 22nd of January from 1PM-4PM, please come and celebrate the life of Bernie, Papa, Poppin.
