Joseph C Durante

Joseph Carl Durante, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Laurie Durante (Meberg) and a proud father to Danielle Medolla (Durante) and her husband Robert Medolla, and Amanda Mazzola (Durante) and her husband Vincent Mazzola. Joseph was a cherished grandfather to Robert, Christopher Paul Medolla, and Gabriella Mazzola, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his loving sister, Susan Monaco, and his nieces and nephews: Jacqueline; Catherine and her husband George; and Anthony and his wife Laura. He was a proud great-uncle to Daniel, Caitlin, Julianna, and Olivia. A native of Brooklyn, New York, Joseph often shared stories of growing up with the famous Coney Island Cyclone practically in his backyard. Those memories of old-time New York stayed with him throughout his life and were stories he loved to tell to anyone willing to listen. Joseph dedicated 38 years of service to the New York City Department of Transportation before retiring. In 2018, he and his wife Laurie relocated to Lillian, Alabama, where he enjoyed a quieter pace of life. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. Joseph also loved gardening and could often be found searching for treasures while thrifting with his grandson Paul. Known for his vibrant personality, Joseph brought energy into every room he entered. He never met a stranger and had a gift for conversation, always ready to share a story, a laugh, or a memory from his New York days. Joseph will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and countless stories that will continue to be shared for generations. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Eternal Life Church in Lillian, Alabama. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Joseph’s life and the memories he shared with so many. 🤍 “He was affectionally called Papa and Papa Joe by all.”
