Harry Richard Turpin

Harry Richard Turpin was tapped on his shoulder by God and told you have worked long enough it’s time to come home on July 21, 2023. Harry was born on June 17, 1945 in Mobile, AL to Patrick Richard and Camilla Corinne Turpin. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Debra Turpin Green, nephew Patrick Green, niece Jenny McAleer Hanscom and his brother- in- law Jack M. Harvey. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Helen E. Turpin. His brother Jim Turpin (Deanna), his sisters: Betty T. Harvey, Dickie T. McAleer (Jim), Annette T. Baer (Greg), Mary Alice T. Weaver (Charlie) and Linda T. Hitt (Richard). Harry has a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who each had a special place in his heart but are too many to list. He graduated from McGill Institute in Mobile, Al and attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi receiving a BS degree in Business. Upon graduation he entered the United States Air Force and served from 1968 -1972 completing a tour of duty in Vietnam. Harry lived in Atlanta, GA from 1972-2017. His career path was in warehousing and purchasing material for industrial products. He was a Certified Purchasing Manager when his formal working days concluded and his career in beach residency took priority. Harry and Helen enjoyed beach life anytime they could get there and from 2010 to 2014 they enjoyed their vacation condo. Moving to the beach full time required a move from the vacation condo to a permanent condo in 2017. Harry and Helen lived their dream for five years indulging in a full life of water, sun, fishing and gaining many new friends including their favorite Snow Birds. He and Helen enjoyed their houseboat on Lake Lanier near Atlanta Ga for 15 years. Harry loved the “Turpin Summer Reunions” at Lake Martin, Al for 30 years that spanned 4 generations of fun, laughter, water adventures and memories forever in his heart. Harry’s love of boating, fishing, and family time on the beach and lake will always remain in his family’s memories. In 2021 Harry and Helen moved to their new home in Foley, Al into a community that provided them the opportunity to make many new friends and enjoy various social activities. Once again in lieu of a beach Harry was given an opportunity to enjoy one of his loves in life. He was an avid gardener providing his wife with many beautiful fresh flowers in their homes. Wherever he lived his neighbors enjoyed his beautiful landscaping with variety of flowers and trees. Harry was a lifelong and devoted Catholic and Church was a very meaningful part of his life. He was an active member of the Catholic Knights of Columbus and he enjoyed volunteering with Lenten Fish Fries at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores Al. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister bringing the Eucharist to homebound Church members at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Douglasville, GA. Harry is now a current member of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Parish in Foley, Al Harry was a good, humble, honorable man who generously served God, Nation, family and friends throughout his life. His smile made you smile and brightened your day as the sunshine does to the flowers. Harry will always be loved and live forever in our hearts. He will be missed by all who knew him.
