Betty Wallace Pickron

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” — Matthew 5:5 Betty Wallace Pickron, age 80, passed peacefully on March 6, 2026 in Hoover, Alabama surrounded by the love of her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God, Betty lived a life defined by humility, kindness, hard work, and deep love for her family. Betty was born in 1945 in Foley, Alabama, to Samuel Wallace and Emma Callaway Wallace. She was one of 11 children and grew up in Gulf Shores, Alabama, in the Lagoon fishing community known locally as “the Ridge.” Those early years along the Gulf Coast helped shape the values that defined her life — faith in God, devotion to family, and a strong work ethic. She graduated from Foley High School in 1963 and went on to build a life centered on faith and family. Over the years she lived in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and Louisiana, faithfully raising her family and instilling in her children the importance of loving God and living as disciples of Christ. Betty was widely respected in her community as the original school secretary at Gulf Shores Elementary School, where she became a familiar and trusted presence to generations of students, teachers, and parents. Her warmth, organization, and steady spirit made her beloved by all who knew her. A dedicated and determined mother, Betty worked tirelessly to provide for her two sons and ensure they had every opportunity to succeed. Through sacrifice, faith, and perseverance, she created a loving home and a strong foundation for her family. Betty also had a spirit of adventure and curiosity about the world. She was an avid traveler who visited all 50 states and numerous countries, embracing the opportunity to experience new places and cultures throughout her life. Betty’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her beloved granddaughter Allie, who brought her tremendous pride and happiness. The faith she lived by and the values she instilled in her family will continue to guide those who loved her for generations to come. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob Pickron; her sons, Tony Russell and Kevin Russell; her beloved granddaughter, Allie Russell ; her brothers, Doug Wallace and Johnny Wallace; and her sister, MeMe Reed. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Wallace; her mother, Emma Callaway Wallace; her sisters, Althea, Dorothy, and Rosena; and her brothers, Buddy, Norman, LD, and James. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she faithfully served throughout her life.
