Mr. Wilbur (Bill) Edel, age 88, went to Heaven from his home in Foley, AL, surrounded by his family and friends, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Born June 13, 1933 in Plainfield, New Jersey to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Edel, Bill attended Teaneck High School in New Jersey and the Norwich Military School in Vermont where he was a member of the Rifle Team and the varsity track team. He was nominated to the Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. Upon graduation from Norwich, Bill entered the U.S. Army Signal Corp where he served 2 years active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant and 6 years as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. He went on to graduate from the Berkley Divinity School at Yale and served as priest of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration for 17 years. Bill loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer and skier who also loved to fish. He was an honorable man of God with a great sense of humor. On June 7, 2020 at the age of 86, Bill was honored to officiate the wedding of his son Greg and wife Jodi. As long as he was able to draw breath, Bill continued to touch many lives and inspire those around him. He is survived by Esther (Essie), his loving wife of 56 years; his daughter Carolyn and husband Randy of Birmingham, AL; son Greg and wife Jodi of Cookeville, TN; and three grandchildren, Katherine, Hannah and Lane. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Summit Church in Foley. Interment will be held on May 20, 2022 at 1:30pm at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL. The Patriot Guard will lead the processional and the U.S. Army will perform the ceremony.
