Stanley Wayne Siler
May 30, 2022
Stanley Wayne Siler, born January 3, 1947, died today in his home in Orange Beach, AL. What can you say about someone so larger-than-life like Stanley? He was born in Douglasville, GA where he lived his early years before the family moved to Stone Mountain, GA. There he attended Stone Mountain High School and graduated with the class of ’64. He attended Southern Technical College as it was known back then and received an Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering. He married and remained in Stone Mountain where he raised 2 children. Once the kids were out of the house, the time was right and he packed up everything and headed for his old fishing spot in Orange Beach. While Stanley, aka “Cowboy”, worked for Southern Bell/BellSouth for 30 some-odd years and was proud of his position as a lineman (or the man who drove the truck), it wasn’t his main passion. And Stanley did have some passions! From hunting up at Castleberry with his wife and “partner-in-Paradise” Lynne to big game hunting in Africa, to fishing with his oldest friend Gene, Stanley had a hobby for all times of the year. And when there was downtime, he took to cooking. Boy could that man cook! Huge hamburgers, fried shrimp, or a piece of pork that he threw on the smoker… it was all “simple food” to him, but gourmet to anyone lucky enough to sit down at his table with him. Hobbies were one thing, but another passion of Stanley’s was his family. He was father of two, Gina Simpson of Simpsonville, SC, and Steven Wayne Siler of Charleston, SC, and grandfather to 4, Sheena, Joshua, Elizabeth, and John. He made it a point to visit his grandchildren as much as possible, making it to their theater performances multiple times. He impressed the people standing in line for the plays with how he’d travelled all the way from LA to attend the performance, a mighty feat until you found out LA stood for Lower Alabama. Stanley is also survived by his brother Charles Siler and sister Becky Siler, and two nephews, Max and Jesse. You always say a person was taken much too soon, but Stanley went on his own terms, just as he wanted things to be. His celebration of life will be Saturday, June 4th at 1 p.m. at the Orange Beach Golf Center behind Duck’s Diner. It will be a casual, loving affair with stories about Stan, good food and perhaps a libation or two.
