Robert Keel

Robert LaDon Keel, known affectionately to friends and family as Don, Bobby Don, Pop, and “Grampa” took his journey home to meet with his Lord Jesus Christ on July 12, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama, at the age of seventy-six. Born on January 16, 1948, in Alexander City, Alabama, Don, was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Robert Keel and Mary Katherine (Baker) Keel. Don is survived by his loving life-partner, Kimberlee Collins, Jesse Cole, Samantha Nielsen (her children, Taylor, Yimari- “Mari” and Keva) & Ashlee Morin (Orien and Mia). Kimberlee’s Mother, Karen O’Brien who, “thought the world of him” and loved him dearly. His sister, Shelia Vickery Howard (Bob). His children, Jason Keel (Sadaf), Victoria Long (Patrick), Brody Keel (Spencer), and Ciarra Scheirer (Clay). His nieces LaDonna Johnson, Yes named after Don (Dennis), Lisa Vickery, Jessica Lassiter (Russ) and two great nieces and a great nephew. His joy though was his grandchildren, a new picture was like the ultimate gift when received! The “babies”- no matter their ages, Zayn, Zarek, Weather, Aspen, Kelton, Kean, Winter, and Wilder Rose, filled him with pride. He graduated in 1966 from Benjamin Russell High School, Alexander City, Alabama, where he made lifelong friends. Don was a member of Cavalry Chapel Foley church, where he found his church family, who provided great comfort and fellowship. Don loved his cat Butch, was a talented watercolor artist. He enjoyed photography, sunsets, golfing, and fishing at the pier. Auburn football games were eagerly anticipated and “War Eagle!!!!!” was heard often, especially when encountering a “Bama Fan.” He would kid them that they “lost a bet” to have to be wearing that shirt! His sense of humor and button pushing was part of his personality, as was his loving, giving and caring heart for others and animals. He brought laughter, reached out to others to teach, whether it be golf, the Word of God, or a question from his sons on how to fix something. Ultimately, he taught that life is short, and we need to let the little things go and cherish every moment. He will be deeply missed, his memory a lifelong gift to family, friends, and co-workers. His Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2024, at Cavalry Chapel Foley, 18464 Underwood Rd, Foley, AL 36535 From 1-3 p.m., where loved ones are invited to gather wearing their best “Auburn Attire” or Hawaiian outfit to honor his memory and celebrate his life.
