Noah Zobrist

Noah Zobrist, Jr. 92, of Gulf Shores passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was born March 26, 1929, in Morton, Illinois to Noah and Mary (Birky) Zobrist. Noah was a Christian for his entire life. He was baptized at East Bend Mennonite Church when he was thirteen years old and confirmed at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church on April 9, 2006. He married Shirley Jean on May 7, 1949. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, David and Stephen. After Shirley’s death, Noah married Dorothy Barbalock (Meyers) on April 5, 2002. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Zobrist of Gulf Shores; one son, David (Karen) Zobrist of Summerdale; three grandchildren, Stephen, Jason, and Chris Zobrist; a daughter-in-law, Cari Zobrist; three sisters, Doris (Bob) Brecher and Fern (Robert) Zimmerman, and Ruth (Bob) Reinken all of Morton; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Zobrist, Nancy Zobrist and Jeanine Zobrist all of Morton; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; a son, Steven; five brothers, Raymond, Alpha, Calvin, Willis, and Lloyd; one sister, Marilyn; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Brenkmen. Noah graduated from Morton High School and went on to serve his country in the Air Force for twenty-two years, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After his military service, Noah spent twenty-two years working as General Manager of several resorts including the Grand Hotel at Point Clear, Alabama where he met many dignitaries, including Bear Bryant. Noah loved being a part of the Morton, Illinois community and wrote a news column for their local paper. In retirement, he enjoyed writing a daily email under the name of “Sam Spade” in which he reported on the baseball career of his great nephew, Ben Zobrist, and later reflected on life with God as he told much of his extended family’s history. Noah joyously lived a life of faith in God as an active church member throughout his life, including St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Elberta, Al. Noah was devoted to God, his country, his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid University of Alabama football fan as well as a baseball fan of Ben’s teams, the Chicago Cubs and Tampa Bay Rays. Noah will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 11 am, Jan. 13, 2022, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Elberta, AL, with Pastor Keith Ringers officiating. Visitation will be held before the service from 10 am to 11 am. His burial will be in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Elberta, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 13220 Main Street, Elberta, AL 36530.
