Obituary for Melba Jean Rogers July 29, 1947—October 19, 2021 Melba Jean Rogers, age 74, passed from this life into the next on Tuesday, October 19, at Saads Hospice Inpatient Facility in Mobile, AL, surrounded by family, Danny, Rodney, Karen, Esther, Dorothy, Dyrl, Collin and an amazing staff of caring medical professionals. Born on July 29, 1947, to D.C. Spence and Bessie Jewel McGraw Spence, Jean was a resident of Daphne, AL. A graduate of Moss Point High School, Jean most recently served as caregiver to her late husband Thomas J. Rogers, Jr. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt, friend, and neighbor. Born to DC and Bessie Spence, she grew up a preacher’s kid, established in the faith of her savior Jesus Christ. She raised her sons, Danny and Rodney for several years as a single mom and in 1993 married Thomas (Tom) Rogers. She and Tom enjoyed many travel adventures together across the US, living in Washington DC and San Diego, and visiting various places around the world until his cancer was no longer manageable. Jean loved the beach and the mountains, she loved bargain shopping and antique “treasure hunting”, she loved her sons, grandchildren, nieces and nephews very much. Her heart always filled with joy when surrounded by loving family and friends. Jean always carried a humble heart and a loving quality that will be missed. Although she battled cancer for over 10 years as caregiver for her husband Tom, her own cancer diagnosis was both sudden and devastating. Regardless, she never lost her tremendous gratitude for her neighbors and family that helped her through her difficult circumstances. In recent years she found joy through her renewal of broken relationships, old and new friendships and support from her family and friends. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Corvin Spence; and her sister, Betty Gunter. She is survived by her two sons, Danny (Therese) Hart of Spanish Fort, AL and Rodney (Stacy) Hart of Birmingham, AL; and 4 grandchildren, Will, Christopher, Leah and Katherine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Although she will be greatly missed, together her family celebrates Jean’s relief from pain and suffering as she joins her savior Jesus Christ
