Julie E Scoggins

May 16, 2022

Julie Elizabeth Scoggins won her battle against pain on May 16, 2022, at her home. She suffered seven years with a lengthy illness prior to her passing. Prior to the illness, Julie lived a full and rich life. She was born May 15, 1974, in Tyler, TX, to parents Pam Scoggins and Mike Scoggins, and was raised in the community of Mineola, TX. Julie was embraced and quickly immersed in her hometown of Mineola. Friends, sleepovers, and swim parties filled her life. She attended public school and was an Honor Graduate of Mineola High School in 1992. At the age of 18 she moved to Montgomery, AL, to attend Auburn University at Montgomery. In September, 1992, she enrolled at AUM and proceeded to make it her own. Julie went through Sorority Rush and pledged to Alpha Gamma Delta. Here she thrived and was the first freshman pledge to be the recipient of all three Freshman awards. She eventually served as Sorority President in her senior year. Sorority life, nursing classes, and Auburn football dominated her college days. Julie was an avid Auburn Tiger and enjoyed Tiger football to the maximum. War Eagle! She received her BS in Nursing in 1997 and began her career first in Montgomery and later in Texas when she returned there. Julie was a nurse at heart and was able to experience various avenues in nursing, including infertility work and operating room experience. It was her life in the operating room that defined her career. It was also her work in the OR that led to the injury that impacted the rest of her life. After June, 2015, she never worked again due to the damage to her neck and spine. In addition to that injury, Julie suffered from long term Covid side effects, especially nerve pain issues, which only exacerbated her injury. Julie was classy and a little bit sassy. She knew her own mind and what she wanted. She used her beloved nursing to achieve her personal goals and ambitions. Owning her own home, traveling, giving to charities, and entertaining filled her adult life. As an only child she was always surrounded by friends who have expressed what a good friend she was and how she will be missed. Julie opened her heart and home to those she loved, including her pets. In addition to her many friends, she is survived by her Mom, Pam Scoggins, and her Father, Mike Scoggins. She was the beloved niece to Pat and Bob Metcalf and Lynn and Debbie Megason. First cousins include Brian and Jan Bomar, Mark Bomar, and Phillip Megason. Other family members and cousins remain as well. She was preceded in death by her cousin Jason Megason and her uncle Sam Megason. Makenna and Zane Boettcher remain as her honorary niece and nephew. Joan Horn served as her second Mom. So many friends she viewed as family mourn her passing. Many claim that she was a sister rather than just a friend. Finally she is survived by her fur babies Sadie Pearl and Dixie Bell. Fur babies were always family. Julie was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Joyce and George Megason, and W. C. and Beth Scoggins. Both sets spoiled her unconditionally in their time in her life. Waiting at the Rainbow Bridge were Boogie and Chloe, her yellow labs, and Stormy and Chyna, her cats. Her open and loving heart will never be replaced. Celebration of Life Julie E. Scoggins’ celebration of life is slated for June 25, at 11:00 am in the Live Oak Room at the Mineola Civic Center*. Join us by sharing a favorite memory and a covered dish following the short memorial service. *1150 N. Newsome Street; Mineola, TX 75773
