Deborah L Sherwood
January 23, 2022
After a hard fought battle with cancer, Deborah L. Sherwood, of Fairhope, AL. passed away on January 23, 2022 while in hospice care at the age of 70. She leaves behind her daughter; Jennifer (Jenny) Davis and grandson Tanner Davis. Also, one very spoiled cat, Oreo, all of whom were with her in her final moments. Deborah was born on June 27th, 1951 in Alpena, MI to father Victor and mother Betty Mischley (Labarge) both of whom predeceased her. She grew up in a large family with 3 brother’s and 2 sister’s. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1970, Alpena Community College in 1981 and spent a couple semester’s at MSU in E. Lansing, MI. She married Jennifer’s father in 1969, in Alpena while he was stationed there with the US Air Force. They moved to his home state of North Carolina soon after his assignment was finished, where she lived until they divorced, and returned to Alpena, where she remained until 1995. In 1995, she joined Jennifer in Alabama and continued to call Alabama home until her passing. She loved her family and if she was your friend, she was your friend for life. She especially LOVED strays. Animals and people. She was a nurturer, and never met a stranger. Whether you needed a shoulder to cry on, a joke for a much needed laugh or her last dollar, whatever it was you needed, she figured out a way to help. Though she only had 1 biological child, she had SEVERAL sons and daughters. Deborah was well known as the Bingo and karaoke queen. She accomplished her dream of recording an album in Nashville, TN. With her partner at the time. She remained brave and strong, even through her final weeks. She raised Jennifer alone and did whatever needed to be done to be sure she had whatever was needed. Words can’t convey how much she will be missed by all who loved and cherished her, especially Jennifer and Tanner. And EVERY Goodwill and Salvation Army from Mississippi through Alabama to the Florida state line. She voiced several times that being a mother and grandmother were her greatest blessings. She loved our lord and savior with every ounce of her being, and spent the final years of her life reading her bible and watching Joseph Prince and Joyce Meyer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, acceptance and music. She has passed the love of music and being kind to everyone, no matter what, to Jenny and Tanner. Deborah is survived by Jennifer and Tanner Davis, one sister Maryann (Dan) Donakowski , one brother Greg (Marilyn) Mischley, 3 nieces, Tina (John) Forrest, Wendy (Mike) Fessler and Jeannette Skaluba. 4 nephews, Eric Skaluba, Joel Mischley and Mark and Nathan Mischley. Her brother’s Lenny and Doug Mischley, sister, Barbara Skaluba and nephew Curtis Mischley all predeceased her. Deborah requested to be cremated. Due to the Rona and this beautiful winter weather we’re having, her daughter will keep her ashes and plan a memorial at a later date. Some of them will be placed with her parents, brothers and sister in Alpena over the summer of 2022, at their final resting place.
