Richard W Carmen

Richard Wayne Carman, 87, of Robertsdale, AL, peacefully departed this life after a brief illness on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Wayne Carman was born June 19, 1936, in Washington, DC, a son of Everett Perry Carman and Elizabeth Estelle Gaither Carman. He was a mechanical engineer and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, and was lifelong member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). His passions were people, his faith, and trains! He worked for Norfolk Southern throughout his career and was a model train enthusiast, devoting rooms in his homes to beautiful and elaborate model train constructs. Wayne was very active in his community, serving at the First Baptist Church in Silverhill, AL, and belonging to many model train clubs over the years, including the South West Alabama Railroad Modelers (SWARM). He also enjoyed gardening, antiques, the beach and sailing, and always had a good story to tell or could explain exactly how things worked – and could fix just about anything for you. Surviving is his loving wife, Williadean K. McCulloch; his children, Paul Douglas Carman of Bridgeport, WV, Lenore Carman Rasmussen (Henrik) of Hingham, MA, and James Nathan Carman (Sally) of Brandywine, MD; grandchildren, Paul, Lars (Michelle), and Carl Rasmussen, and Katelyn and Brooke Carman; and many beloved nieces and nephews; stepsons Mark Johnson, Eric Johnson and others; step grandchildren Julia Johnson, Luke Johnson and others; and many cherished cousins near and far. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his older brothers Thomas Carman and Harry “Bud” Carman and his older sister Lois (Carman) Snowden; and first wife Winola Lucille (Hickman) Carman, second wife Judith (Segar) Carman, and third wife Virginia Gust Carman. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is being held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Silverhill, AL.
