In Loving Memory of Captain Lucian “Buddy” H. Andrews, III November 1, 1956 – July 14, 2025 “Our retired Captain is sailing the high seas now.” With great sadness and deep admiration, we announce the passing of Captain Lucian “Buddy” H. Andrews, III, who left this world on July 14, 2025, at the age of 68. Born in Mobile, Alabama, and a proud 1975 graduate of Fairhope High School, Buddy went on to earn his degree from Auburn University, forging a life filled with adventure, love, and an unshakable bond with nature. A retired boat captain, Buddy spent much of his life on the water navigating with skill, heart, and a deep respect for the sea. His years at the helm were more than a career; they were a reflection of his soul. Whether guiding a crew or casting a line, he was most at peace with the water beneath him and the horizon ahead. Buddy was a man of the land as much as the sea. He found joy in every season outdoors hunting the woods with patience and reverence, fishing with quiet focus, and tending to his vibrant garden with a green thumb that seemed to work magic. Nature was his sanctuary, and he treated it with care and gratitude. Known for his easy smile, deep laugh, and unwavering loyalty, Buddy was a brother of music, a storyteller among friends, and a steady anchor to those who needed him. He built a life rich in friendship and filled with the kind of quiet wisdom that comes from a life well-lived. Buddy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine K. Andrews; his parents, Bessie Mae and Lucian H. Andrews, Jr; his sister, Rebecca I. Rumbaugh; his niece, Stephanie E. Smith; and his devoted dog and companion, Buster. He is survived by his sisters, Lucia Andrews (Ben) Smith and Deborah Smith, both of Fairhope, Alabama; his brother-in-law, Andy Rumbaugh of Bristow, Virginia; and his stepdaughter and live-in caregiver, Darcy Robinson, named as his sole heir. He is also lovingly remembered by his many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and step-grandchildren, as well as dozens of life-long friends, brothers of music, fishing and hunting comrades, and loyal crew members. Captain Buddy Andrews leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy—a life lived in rhythm with the water, the woods, and the wind. As we say goodbye, we know he’s casting a line in calmer waters now, guided by stars and carried by tides eternally. Fair winds and following seas, Captain. You will be dearly missed.
