Laura M Franklin

Laura Mount Franklin of Foley, Alabama passed away peacefully on Monday September 18, 2023, after a long illness and battle with cancer. She took her illness in stride, never complained, and lived her life completely with her loving husband Skip and dog Lula. She was born on November 18, 1959, in Jackson, Tennessee to Bill and Rasma Mount. Laura graduated from Clarkston High School in 1977. Laura married Skip Franklin on August 19, 1978, at Clarkston Baptist Church and she was a radiant bride. Laura and Skip recently celebrated 45 years of marriage, fulfilling the commitment they made to each other every day. Their relationship was an excellent testimony to the sacrament of marriage. She worked at Panasonic and Hitachi before starting a career with American Honda. Laura worked there for 23 years before retiring in 2019. Laura also held many other positions, including working as a skilled bookkeeper and organizer. She also helped grow Skip's company by doing administrative work in the early 2000s. Laura is survived by her devoted husband Skip Franklin, her sister Andra Mount & husband, Pete; her uncle Jerry Mount; her cousin Melanie Sandman & husband, Tom; her nephew Brett Anderson & wife, Kara; and her nieces Reanna McKee and Gracie Overcash. She is also survived by her beautiful and faithful canine companion, Lula girl. In addition, Laura is survived by her many international exchange students, who considered her as a bonus mom. Lastly, Laura is survived by countless men and women who considered her a woman of influence and a trusted friend. Knowing Laura changed their lives for the better, and in turn, she and Skip regarded them as their own children, and their children, their grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Rasma Mount. Laura’s faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a proud member of several Methodist churches. Her final church home was at Orange Beach Methodist Church where she felt like she and Skip were ‘home’. She recently reaffirmed her faith in a ceremony on May 21, 2023, that was attended by many loved ones. Laura had a cornerstone of faith that could not be shaken, and she was an inspiration to many. Laura was a great planner and used her organizing talents to bring joy to everyone. She had an unbelievable gift for bringing people together, connecting them and creating environments of true fun and fellowship. She had many nicknames that reflected her strong leadership skills, such as Skip’s term of endearment ‘The Warden’. Shopping was a favorite hobby of hers and she had a style that had no comparison. She was a phenomenal cook, famous for her spaghetti and her southern vegetables. She also thoroughly enjoyed good food and restaurants. She had an unconditional giving heart and was at times sly with her generosity, however it made her happy to give and help others. She was also very thoughtful and creative. Laura could solve every problem presented to her, as she was an especially determined person. Laura had an everlasting effect on everyone she came into contact with. Her light and presence will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held both in Foley, Alabama and North Georgia, at a later date. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers or cards, that donations be made in her honor to a foundation benefiting any disease of your choice.
