Larry K Colvin

Larry Keith Colvin, 77, a native of Runnelstown, MS and a longtime resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1973. In 2007, Larry retired from Burlington Northern Railroad. In the years following his retirement, he spent time building homes in Mississippi with his brother Kenny and traveling with his wife. You could often times find him picking up the granddaughters from school and taking them and the dog to Sonic for ice cream, making the kids count out enough change to pay for it. Many times you could find him taking the youngest grandson to “Chick-A-Play”. He told many great stories about his life experiences and some farfetched stories as well. Whether it was his girls when they were little or his grandkids as they were young enough to fall for it, when driving across Mobile Bay, he would point to the long strand of lights on the Battleship and say "you know they trained a monkey to change out the light bulbs up there? They send him up every night to change out the ones that went out.” Every year at Christmas time he would have the kids search the skies for Rudolph while traveling at night. The red blinking lights on the towers got them every time. He gave the tightest hugs that always followed with a “love ya baby”. Larry was immensely proud of his girls and grandchildren and could often be found bragging about them to anyone that would listen. He never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone at any time. He enjoyed restoring old cars, often roping his grandsons in to helping as they got older. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Joe Rome Colvin; mother, Mildred Colvin and brother Elmer Joe Colvin. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia and their three daughters, Dede Davis (Jody), of Silverhill, AL; Jenny Vick (Raymond) of Fairhope, AL and Connie Colvin (Jason) of Fairhope, AL; eight grandchildren, Christina Thornburg (Phillip) of Lucedale, MS; Trey Wood of Fairhope, AL; Dillion Everett of Atlanta, GA; Tyler Sheppard (Quinlan) of Loxley, AL: Victoria Hooks (Greyson) of Fairhope, AL; Ashley Thornton (Zachary) of Wilmer, AL; Carson Cotton of Fairhope, AL and Brendon Cotton of Fairhope, AL; nine great grandchildren and brothers Ernie Colvin, of Petal, MS and Kenneth Colvin, Gautier, MS.
