Karen Purdy

Karen Purdy, age 59 of Lexington, Kentucky, went to heaven on November 4, 2025, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She was born on August 11, 1966, In Paris, Kentucky to the late Powell and Wilma Whitlock who founded/pastored Christ Community Church in Nicholasville, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Purdy; daughter, Gabrielle Purdy; son, Jesse Purdy; sister, Sheila Gorham; niece, LaDonna Robert’s and her husband Darrell; their sons, great nephews, Brooks and Carson; and niece Marissa Gorham;. Karen was employed by Central Baptist Hospital and became a stay at home mom when our second child was born. This was her dream job caring for her children. She put her heart and soul into it every day taking the best care of our family. Those who knew Karen will remember her for the unwavering acts of kindness to her family and friends, not only was she beautiful on the outside but she exuded inner beauty to all around her. Her intelligence and willing to solve any problem big or small was her superpower. Her faith and love of Jesus was instilled early in her upbringing and she always prayed for family, friends, and anyone going through difficult times. She always provided little messages and hints about Jesus and heaven in such a subtle way so we would be together again one day. Karen found joy in anything related to being with her family, watching her kids play sports, walking on the beach, riding bikes, boating, ski trips, family vacations, cooking wonderful meals, playing board and card games and usually winning, dock days, and always providing sound advice to everyone. Let’s not forget her dog, “Biscuit” who has been by her side 24 hours a day with unconditional love for the past 12 years. Biscuit loved her walks with Karen but when Karen was not able, Biscuit stayed by her side and didn’t care as long as she was able to see Karen. This was a bond that you had to see to believe. Although Karen is no longer with us, her beautiful soul will be in our hearts forever. May her memory be a reminder to us all how to treat people and how to love as we carry forth her legacy in all that we do. We will place an engraved bench in Gulf Shores State Park on the trails where we rode bikes. This was one of her favorite things to do.
