Joseph Kirk Flanagan

Joseph Kirk Flanagan was born in New Bern, North Carolina on November 5, 1963, and passed away in Cypress, Texas on October 4, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Lee Flanagan; his brother, Forrest Woods; and sister, Nancy “Honey” Richards. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Pam Flanagan; his son, Jake Flanagan; brother, Gifford Anglim; and sister, Lee Henderson. Many of us knew him as Joe, but most of us knew him as the red haired, freckled, Irish guy named Jose’. He had the most infectious laugh that will forever ring in our ears and bring a smile to our faces. Jose’s favorite childhood memories were camping in Key West with his family, spending summers with his grandparents, and going to Sea Camp. He loved everything about being near the ocean. He began his military career by enlisting in the U.S. Navy after high school graduation. He became a distinguished graduate at Submarine Communication Technician School and shortly after received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. After graduation from the academy, he served on the USS Robert E. Peary and the USS Haleakala as a Surface Warfare Officer. While in the military he was an avid runner and triathlete. The events he was most proud of was completing the Marine Corp Marathon and a Half Ironman. His last appointment was at the Naval Education and Training Program Management Support Activity in Pensacola, FL. While in Pensacola he attended the University of West Florida and graduated with an MBA. He also competed in triathlons, running events, and sailing regattas on Pensacola Bay which led him to meeting his future wife. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Joe married Pam and began his civilian career as a logistics manager. He loved being a father, sailing, running, biking, keeping an aquarium and gardening. He was a loving husband, beloved father, and friend. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and kind heart! He will be laid to rest at the Barrancas National Cemetery in a graveside service at 11:00 am on Friday, October 13, 2023. Fair Winds and Follow Seas Jose’ You were loved and will be missed by many!
