Harold Curtis Riddle Sr

Harold Curtis Riddle Sr was born Nov 26, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa and walked into the presence of his Savior on Jan 28, 2024, at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents and all but 2 of his siblings and his daughter-in-law Amy. He is survived by his wife of almost 71 years Ethel, 3 sons, Buddy and his wife Maureen, Chuck and his wife Renee and John. Harold has 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He has 2 sisters and 2 sisters in law and one brother in law along with numerous nieces and nephews and was loved by all. He was the youngest son in a family of 13 kids. Harold attended school in Des Moines and at 18 years of age he enlisted in the United States Navy in May 1951. During his tour in the Navy Harold was stationed at Baron Field Naval Air Station shortly after it re-opened in 1951. He was a chaplain’s assistant while stationed at Baron Field. While stationed here Harold attended church at First Baptist Church in Foley where he met a young lady named Ethel Boone in October 1952. Harold courted Ethel from October of 52 to March 8, 1953 when he married her. In July of 1953 Harold received his orders to sea duty where he served on board the USS Wasp aircraft carrier for the next two years and did two world cruises. Ethel rode a Greyhound bus from Foley to Los Angeles and stayed with a cousin so they could see each other while he was in port. Harold and Ethel saw each other twice during that two years of sea duty. After serving the Navy for four years Harold received his discharge and came home to Foley where he worked at Foley Butane, and Moyer Ford so that he could pursue his real passion of leading music. He started leading music at Westend Baptist Church and moved to Pleasant View Baptist Church and churches in Georgia, and back to Fulton Road Baptist Church in Mobile. Harold then was called to serve with Bible Memory Association for the next 10 years. He led music in churches in Missouri, Louisiana and Texas. Harold and Ethel moved back to Foley in 1984 in where he led music for Westend Baptist Church which later became Calvary Baptist Church which is where we are today. Harold’s 72+ years of service to the Lord started here and ended here. He said recently that of all the years he spent in ministry he wanted to be remembered most that he sang for the glory of the Lord.
