George Washington Watson

GEORGE WASHINGTON WATSON 83 Formerly of Erie PA, affectionately known as G W transitioned peacefully at his daughter’s home in Daphne, Alabama on Saturday, January 13, 2024. George was born in Vardaman MS on May 15, 1940, to the late Pruitt (Fannie Mae Smith-Watson-Birthmother) and Willie Mae Watson. George was a 1959 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. George retired from 2 jobs Lord Corporation where he received a patent for developing an adhesive, he was employed there for over 55 years he was also employed part time while at Lord Corporation at Richmond Brothers/Anderson Little then Diamonds Menswear until his complete retirement and returned to the workforce as a Lyft Driver. At an early age George was involved in the community with the Martin Luther King Center Youth Council and the Chesterfield Organization. He was also an avid golfer, racquetball player a Pittsburgh Steelers Fan as well as a faithful servant of First Good Samaritan AME Zion Church where he served on the Finance Committee and Male Chorus. George was proceeded in death by his wife of 25 years Betty Jewel Allen-Watson in May of 2022, his brother Douglas Watson (2023), and 2 grandsons Scott Williams and William Scooter Allen. George is survived by his daughter and Son-in-law Stacy and Ricky Crenshaw, Sons Michael (Tammy) Allen and Tommy (Kayla) Allen. He is survived by grandsons, Ricky (Luz) Crenshaw, Michael Crenshaw, Thomas Allen Jr., Tyler Allen, Xavier Johnson, Sammy Johnson, Charles Johnson and Ezeriah Brown. Granddaughters: Terricca Hall, Janelle Allen, Ashley Tate, and Paige Williams. Great-grandchildren: Carsyn Crenshaw (Daphne AL); Nevaeh & Natalya Heidelberg, Ashton & Aubrey Allen, Imani Moore; Tavon, Ayzon, Asmir, Syncere McClendon and Khy’Mari Johnson. He is also survived by his loving sisters Paulette (Charles) Myers and Frances McCall of Erie PA. Sisters in Law, Deborah Roberson, Geraldine Hathaway, Willie J. Wilcox, Gracie Darby; Brothers in law; Dwight Esters, Jessie Ward and James Knight. Dear Friends Tom Gaadt and James Barnett. Georges final wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest with his wife Betty. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to Southern Care Hospice (Foley AL) for the exquisite care and dignity that was shown to George during his illness he grew fond of nurses Mary White, Ashli Wooley, CNA’s Ashley Kirkland and Stacey Marshall. Saturday February 17, 2024. 2 pm First Good Samaritan AME Zion Church 3209 Pennsylvania Avenue Erie PA 16504 Cremation and dignified services were handled by Cason Funeral Service Foley Alabama.
