Gary Kermit Jones

Gary Kermit Jones (June 21, 1944- November 5, 2023 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary K. Jones at the age of 79. Gary passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023, after experiencing complications related to a recent illness. Gary was born on June 21, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to parents Helen L. Jones and Kermit B. Jones. In 1962, he graduated from Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg, Florida. With immense pride, he enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduating. He proudly served his country for six years, both at home and abroad. When he returned home, Gary attended St. Petersburg Junior College for a brief time. Gary's time in the military ignited his passion for law enforcement. Gary began his career as a patrol officer with the Pinellas Park Police Department in Florida. He later transferred to the Florida Beverage Department, where he excelled as a State Agent. On January 31, 1969, he married Patricia D. Webster Jones in St. Petersburg, Florida, and soon after, Gary began his successful tenure with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as a Special Agent. He was subsequently transferred to Newnan, Georgia, where he continued his remarkable service. After his illustrious thirty-year career, he retired from ATF, and he and Patricia relocated to South Alabama. Gary enjoyed leisurely lounging by the pool, enjoying a delicious chocolate malt, deep sea fishing, watching the American Heroes Channel, and practicing his aim at the gun range. He was an active and dedicated member of his local Fraternal Order of Police and The American Legion. He cherished his role as a loving husband, father, pawpaw, and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen L. Jones, and father, Kermit B. Jones. He is survived by his wife, Patricia D. Jones; his daughter, Jennifer M. Jones Toliver, and her husband, Michael J. Toliver; his granddaughter, Hannah M. Mobley; and his brother, Dr. Galen B. Jones and family. 2 / 2 The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 13th at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetary at Spanish Fort.
