Mrs Dorothy Huyler

Mom’s heart was filled with love, and she expressed it in many different ways. Family was always her number one priority. She shared this love for over twenty years as a child advocate for abused children. Mom and dad opened their home to a hundred or more foster children. Their unconditional love and guidance included a stable and safe home, family gatherings, and trips to Disney World. These children have remained a part of their lives as they have grown and matured into adulthood. This has brought about a new generation of grandbabies who called her “Emma”. Dottie and George had two children, Dawnice and Buddy who both married and brought into the family a son Chuck and a daughter Linda. Mom was very proud of all of their accomplishments and the parents that they have become. A highlight of her life was her grandchildren- Madison and Mason Harloff and Noah, Samantha, and Leah Huyler. She lived to see them succeed and supported all of their individual passions. Mom also loved to travel and experience life on the road, and through all the wonderful places she visited, Mom and dad found a second home and family in Alabama. This neighborhood of friends at Rainbow Plantation brought her and dad great joy and happiness. They had just recently purchased a home in Summerdale, Alabama to enjoy the new family they had found and the beautiful weather. Mom’s greatest love of her life was her best friend and companion George. She married the one person she wanted to grow old with and whom she wanted to share all the love she held in her heart. Even though she is now in God’s loving arms, mom will always be there to hold dad’s hand. We will miss the joy and the sound of her laugh as she lit up a room. We will also miss her hugs and kisses, along with all the silly things that she did. Mom touched all of us in many different ways, and we are so grateful to have a wonderful mom who cared so much and affected so many. “We love you mom”. Arrangements are by Cason Funeral Service Foley Alabama In memory: Dottie Huyler passed quickly into God’s loving arms on March 4th, 2017, proceeded by her father and mother, Everett and Susan Benfield. She is survived by her husband George, daughter Dawnice Harloff (Chuck), son Buddy (Linda), along with 5 beautiful grandchildren- Madison and Mason Harloff; Noah, Samantha, and Leah Huyler. Dottie married the love of her life George on Oct 10th, 1964 in Boston, Massachusetts. They soon found their way to Grand Haven, Michigan where they raised their family. Being a wonderful mother and wife was her biggest priority, but she also worked outside the home in several different capacities. She spent some time working for a private attorney drafting court documents when she first moved to Grand Haven. As time passed, she worked locally as a waitress at the Lamplighter, The Grand River Inn, and Russ’. Wanting to give more of her time, she was compelled to become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteering her time to help place children in permanent foster homes. Finding a sense of fulfillment in helping others, Dottie knew that her true calling was to become a foster parent to provide support and guidance to those children in need. During a period of about twenty years, Dottie and George opened their home to over 100 foster children. Retiring from foster care, she and George sold their home, purchased an RV, and traveled the United States for seven years until they recently purchased a permanent home at the Rainbow Plantation (RV community) in Summerdale, Alabama. Mom said she was very happy, loved her house, front porch, her magnolia tree, all her new friends at Rainbow Plantation, and most of all, loved dad. We will miss her with all our hearts!
