Dorothy Hilton

Dorothy Jeanette (Burton) Hilton, affectionately known as “Toots”, of Foley, AL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on April 17, 2024. Born on June 11, 1942 Dorothy was the third of twelve children born to the late John & Donie (Morris) Burton. Dorothy was raised in Monroe and Baldwin Counties, Alabama until as a teenager she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she met the late Wilson Daniel (“Danny”) Hilton whom she married. Together, and after moving back to Alabama, they had two children, Angela Michelle Conquer (Steve) and Kirk Wayne Hilton. For eighteen years Dorothy put her artistic talents to work and was a professional retouch artist with several portraits she worked on winning top honors at photography competitions. Dorothy cherished her role as Mimi to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Happy & funny memories too numerous to count were made through the years with Mimi being the center of each story. A small example of her love of being Mimi can be seen on the jokingly named “wall of fame” in her home which contained many framed photos of the children. With a fantastic sense of humor and wonderful wit Dorothy was always telling jokes and seemed to have one-liners in her pocket at all times. She found joy in hunting treasures at garage sales, enjoying a good meal (particularly dessert) and spending time with her family and friends. In 1969 Dorothy was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness. All who knew or met Dorothy knew about her love for and faith in Jehovah. Her faith and belief in the promise of resurrection to a paradise earth helped Dorothy to face her recent illnesses with grace and dignity. Predeceased by her parents and brothers, John (“Buggy”), Floyd and William (“Tiny”), sisters Gladys (“Midget”) and Faye; Dorothy’s memory is honored by her children, Angie and Kirk; son-in-law, Steve; her grandchildren, Stephen, Cayleigh (Justin), Preston (Maria), Jack (Nova), Micah (Baraa), Amirah, Laiken (James), Kennedy (Chelsea), Jamilah and Aliyah; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Dylan, Logan, Alyssa, Sumaya (“Sumi”), Zaynab (“Zuzu"), Gannon, Benjamin, Raine and Dragon; sisters, Marie (“Bay Bay”), Cindy, Theresa and Carol; and brother, Steve (“Artie”); many nephews, nieces and cousins along with a community of friends all whom loved and cared deeply for her. Her memorial service is scheduled to be held Saturday, May 11 at 3:30 p.m. (CST) at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 21287 County Road 12, Foley, AL. Brother Don Kilbourne will officiate the service.
