David A Shontell

David Allen Shontell was born 9/14/1958 in Mobile Alabama to Bernard Allen Shontell and Mary Turner Shontell. David went home to be with his heavenly father on 9/1/23. David was preceded in death by his beloved son, Damon Wade Shontell, his mother Mary Turner Shontell, his brother Steven Edward Shontell, and his maternal grandparents Davis Luther Turner and Ruth Johnson Turner. He is survived by his two daughters Tiffany Shontell and Lindsey Shontell Edinger (Mark), his father Bernie Allen Shontell (Pat), sister Suzanne Shontell Hoar (Brad), niece Blakely Hayter (Killian), nephews Justin Hoar and Chris Shontell, his six grandchildren Bailey, Kimber, Hannah, Jackson, Abigail, and Jimmy, the love of his life, Starla Smith, and his three fur babies Penny, Katy, and Marlee. If you knew David, you knew his love of southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, art, drawing, and philosophy. David was a collector of things. He collected trinkets and mementos from his travels through the United States, but he most cherished the relationships he made along the way. David never met a stranger. From the very first introduction, he would talk to you like he was talking to an old friend. He was understanding of struggles, never passed judgement, and always had a profound quote from a historian, writer, or philosopher that perfectly applied to the situation. David was open about his hardships in life which allowed him to relate to others on a level that created an instant deep connection. If David considered you a friend, you knew you always had an ally in life. David rarely let a past grievance stand in the way of a friend or family in need and would never allow someone he loved to feel alone during difficulties. After surviving the devastating loss of his son, he found life and love again. Whether it was making you a can of soup that tasted like a gourmet meal or dropping everything to drive you hours making sure you made it home safe, his intention was to make sure you knew and felt loved and valued. He was rough around the edges, but was a gentle soul. This couldn’t have been better portrayed than through his love of animals. Nature and the wilderness were his happy place. So, as we say goodbye to David, we can rest knowing that he now runs with the wolves, soars with the eagles, and flows with the rivers. He is in the sunshine on our face, the dirt beneath our feet, and the wind in our hair. Goodbye old friend, until we meet again.
