Mr David R Lancaster

David R. Lancaster passed away Friday December 23, 2016 at the age of 73 in his home surrounded by loving family. David (Dave) fought a long two-year battle with lung cancer. He was a resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama for the past five years. Originally Dave was from Michigan-the Hastings, Lake Odessa, Sunfield area. David was born December 27, 1942 in Hastings, Michigan at Pennock Hospital to Violet (Curtis) and Delbert Lancaster. He is survived by sister Pat Lancaster of Hastings, Michigan and proceed in death by his brother Delbert Lancaster and sister Carolyn Lancaster. Dave’s wife Dorla (Staup-Wood) proceeded him in death after 25 years of marriage. He was also proceeded in death by first wife Sherry (Thaler). His children include Robin (Lancaster) Easey and husband Randy Easey of Hastings Michigan. David Lancaster and wife Kandy Lancaster of Hastings, Michigan. Jodi (Wood) Smith and husband Steve Smith of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Jolene Misner of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Grandchildren include: Richard Easey, William Easey, Cody Smith, Jeremy Lancaster, Dylan Shook, Tara Shook, and Shane Smith. Great grandchildren include: Karrie Jones, Korey Jones, Tyler Easey, and Bryson Smith. David attended Hastings High School. After high school, he worked at several local restaurants that he enjoyed included Dog N Suds and Richie’s in Hastings, Michigan. Although Dave did not remain in the restaurant profession he did continue to enjoy cooking throughout his life and often shared stories of his early restaurant years. Dave went to work for General Motors at the Fisher Body Lansing plant and retired after 33 years. He was a proud member of Local Union 602. Dave enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. He was often the family cook with grandchildren requesting their favorite dishes. He also enjoyed reading, especially Clive Cussler and James Mitchum. Dave was a big history buff and often could be found watching the History channel and was ready to debate historical events. He loved going to the casino and enjoyed the slot machines. He was guilty of often spoiling his grandchildren. Dave always had a beloved pet and most recently was spoiling his dog Bandit. Dave and his wife Dorla enjoyed traveling and visited many places including the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Branson Missouri, Niagara Falls, and throughout the Midwest. They spent a lot of time in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as Dave had family there. At one point, they owned several acres in Northern Michigan that they used for camping and easier access to the Upper Peninsula. They remodeled several homes and could often be found rearranging the layout of their home. Dave wished to join his wife Dorla in Michigan for his final resting place. A private family memorial was held in Gulf Shores, Alabama. In the spring the family will plan a memorial for friends and family that will take place in Michigan. The exact date will be determined. Dave fought a long hard battle against lung cancer and needed many blood transfusions. It was due to the blood donations of strangers that Dave could fight so long and hard. The family asks that those who could would donate blood to help another family continue the battle against cancer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
